Good And Bad

 

It has been a very strange few days with mixed emotions

The Good

A surprise gift arrived from Sonja in Serbia to wish me a happy birthday, I have got a little slow at posting thanks.

and actually this arrived a little while ago,it contained some paper items including homemade, lovely crochet embellishments,a ATC ,a bag of goodies and the most delightful hand sewn hanging ornament.

each one was well worth waiting for.

And I  received a Fat Bag ,well it was a postal bag over stuffed with goodies from my very dear friend Kit in sunny Florida

Once again Kit has been very generous,and there is far too much to list.

And finally I received  a dainty origami heart from Kalona in the U K. which was just a RAAK . (random act of kindness )

The Bad

My sweet little Granddaughter had her vaccinations earlier this week ,and since has been quite poorly.We thought it was the vaccinations that made her so ill but a couple of day's later Mummy also was  very poorly so I guess a nasty bug was picked up somewhere. All I could do while looking after her  was plenty of cuddles as she was not interested in playing or eating. I did have to find inner strength for this weeks child-minding because as someone once wrote( Feel the fear and do it anyway ) and I have a real phobia / fear of vomiting. Thank goodness today when she did a quick visit with Daddy she was feeling much better.

Unlike the love of her life Wilson who has gone away for the weekend and has overdone the swimming and is unable to walk.

I have been told he is feeling very sorry for himself.

The other sad thing I /we  saw while out walking was two dead frogs and even worse a dead grass snake, I know in the grand scheme of things perhaps this is not worth mentioning ,but if it were not for our weird unseasonal weather  they would not have been in the road just waiting to get run over.

Today My husband and i decided to spend the day working outside in the garden ,It was so warm that the dragonflies were hovering over the pond ,and  we were both struggling in the heat,

What is happening with our weather ?

Autumn

Autumn seems to have arrived at last ,the weather is cooler and the winds are beginning to remove the last leaves.
We had twenty four hours in Brixham , Devon  at the weekend and the weather was kind to us, we even had a meal on the outside balcony of a  new restaurant in the town.

It was not as unhealthy as it looks ,vegetable pancakes,garlic bread and wonderful fluffy chips.Anyone who knows me will tell you this is a very rare thing for me to do as I really dislike eating out, but there was something about the mild evening,the lights around the harbour and the smell of wood smoke from the wood burner inside ,that made it a great experience.
I did manage to resist dessert


I do think Brixham is so pretty at night.

Saturday morning this  ship the Tres Hombres came into the harbour,she is a commercial cargo ship and she bought goods from the Caribbean and will be leaving with ale for Brittany in France.She sails the world delivering goods and relies solely on the wind.


she will be quite at home in the port for a few days as  Brixham has several heritage vessels already based there.

These are managed and maintained by willing volunteers


Add Freddy the ferry boat into the mix,and there is always something to see.







Wilson sometimes forgets he weighs 40+ kgs
On the craft front I received a wonderful little INCHIE box from Kalona  in the swap she  hosted over at milliande

And this is the Twinchie box I sent her which is much more rustic with a seaside theme.


It is made from a felted cashmere jumper,calico and printed muslin.
I can now also post pictures of a journal page I did back in June for a collaborative Journal for Milliande.
Marilyn over at  http://lifeartcollide.blogspot.com/ hosted and assembled the Journal on our behalf and this was my page.


Glossy accents added brightness to the eyes

I created it by printing onto calico and stitching this onto card,The face is made using Fimo and before curing I made holes to thread her hair through.The two Tags were cut with my Sizzix and coloured with inks before adding text.These tags were placed in the pocket behind the face.

A Moment In Time

Mythical Gods and Goddesses

I chose Flora the Roman Goddess of flowers just so that I could cut yet more flowers with the Sizzix.

I seem to be going back to my roots by making cards at the moment,this birthday card is for an elderly gentleman who keeps an eye on our home in Brixham.

The background is card cut with my new spellbinders dies, and the fish and letter C are cut with Sizzix dies.

This  birthday card is for a lovely woman who I hope ONE day will be my younger sons Mother in Law (If only he could get down on one knee )

The scallop squares are cut with Spellbinders and the decorative accent and letters are cut with Sizziz and I just had to add a little bell.

And this is a thank you card for a lady I have never spoken to but she does a wonderful job of maintaining the communal gardens at Brixham.

 

Also done with spellbinders and Sizzix and altered originals inks.

Indian Summer

Here in parts of the U K we  are having an Indian summer,this a selection of photos I have taken in the glorious West Country, at home and away.

Away

Warm temperatures mean sea mist



This is the reason that I always pick up discarded fishing line.

The following away photos were taken in Brixham Devon which I have blogged about before.It is a busy fishing port which recently featured in a 10 part SKY ATLANTIC  series. The narrow back streets were once the haunt of smugglers ,but they must have  been very fit.










I was able to resist searching through these boxes JUST.


This shop selling carved wooden items has been there for years ,but I have never seen the owner sat outside before.Perhaps the presence of TV camera crews may have something to do with it.






October 1st  and record breaking temperatures,it was great to see so many family's enjoying the beach.

As I am not a sailor I was not out with my husband in one of the distant yachts  He and a friend were out for seven hours but as there was little wind did not travel far,
The ferries that cross the bay were packed



And Wilson found a lady friend called Lucy to swim with , this is Lucy's owner trying to persuade Wilson to give him the ball.

so off I went and in a very short time I had taken these.














We used to call people like this Men of the road,I hope I am not doing him an injustice,but he did seem to have some very strange  belongings.
We had a detour on the way home today as my Husband had bought  4 wheels+ tyres from EBay,as his car had failed the MOT.
We had to travel down to Cornwall which is a beautiful part of Britain ,this added about 100 miles to our journey home which was not great on such a hot day. We did not get near the coast but we were up on the moors and at one point we were surrounded by wind turbines all motionless and silent.

and when we eventually got  home another flash of red when my husband cut the grass.
