Autumn

Autumn seems to have arrived at last ,the weather is cooler and the winds are beginning to remove the last leaves.
We had twenty four hours in Brixham , Devon  at the weekend and the weather was kind to us, we even had a meal on the outside balcony of a  new restaurant in the town.IMG_5849

It was not as unhealthy as it looks ,vegetable pancakes, garlic bread and wonderful fluffy chips.Anyone who knows me will tell you this is a very rare thing for me to do as I really dislike eating out, but there was something about the mild evening, the lights around the harbour and the smell of wood smoke from the wood burner inside ,that made it a great experience.
I did manage to resist dessert

I do think Brixham is so pretty at night.

Saturday morning this  ship the Tres Hombres came into the harbour, she is a commercial cargo ship and she bought goods from the Caribbean and will be leaving with ale for Brittany in France. She sails the world delivering goods and relies solely on the wind.

she will be quite at home in the port for a few days as  Brixham has several heritage vessels already based there.

It is made from a felted cashmere jumper, calico and printed muslin.
I can now also post pictures of a journal page I did back in June for a collaborative Journal for Milliande.
Marilyn over at  http://lifeartcollide.blogspot.com/ hosted and assembled the Journal on our behalf and this was my page.

I created it by printing onto calico and stitching this onto card,The face is made using Fimo and before curing I made holes to thread her hair through. The two Tags were cut with my Sizzix and coloured with inks before adding text. These tags were placed in the pocket behind the face.

  1. What an interesting post! Funny thing I am the same re: eating in restaurants. I love the fact that there are still people out there who do things the old fashioned way like on the Tres Hombres. I love the inchie boxes and your journal page is sensational! Congrats Mary!:-) xoxo

  2. It has been such a long time since I dropped by for a visit Mary and now I truly feel as if I've been on a little holiday thanks to your fabulous pictures. Being a land-locked prairie girl I can only imagine what being near the sea must be like. It was wonderful to see your journal page once again. Like seeing an old friend!
P.S. I could not have passed up on that dessert.

  3. Oh yes Mary! I LOVE these beautiful sailing vessels. Surprised you did I?? :)

I have to let you into a guilty secret - my favorite answer to, "What are you making for supper?" is "Reservations!" I love to eat out and that restaurant looks like it's right up my ally :0)
    Hugs,

  5. love those inchie and twinchie boxes what a clever idea. YOu make me laugh when you ask HOW i fit it all in..the card today only took about half an hour..I suppose the secret is having supplies to hand. On bigger project such as the house I did recently I do little bits at a time..love looking at all your photos especially the boats
